The Global Farm Program as a whole aims to educate both growers and consumers about the necessity and long-term benefits of sustainable agriculture. At its core, the Global Farm Labeling Program is meant to simultaneously promote the values of the Global Farm Program, increase awareness of the Global Farm Brand, and provide added value for product manufacturers. The Global Farm Label is a symbol of uncompromising quality and dedication to the ideals and principles of the Global Farm movement.
In order to qualify for participation, manufacturers must demonstrate their willingness to commit to the Foundational Principles of the Global Farm Program, as well as the standards governing use of the Global Farm Label. Above all, manufacturers must agree to purchase all Global Farm Certified crops at fair market prices.
Participation is simple. Follow these simple steps to get the process started:
Unlike the plethora of Fair Trade and Organic certifications currently on the market, the Global Farm Certification is unique in both its scope and intent. The Global Farm Program focuses on certifying crops that are grown in their native geographic location, are already being grown in a traditional sustainable or semi-sustainable fashion, and are being cultivated by farmers who wouldn't otherwise have access to Organic or Fair Trade certifying bodies.
GoSustainable works with small-scale, rural farms, focusing on sustainable, not simply organic, farming. Sustainability encompasses more than a committment not to use chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides; it's about developing methods that can sustain a farm into the future, so that 10 years from now, soil fertility will have improved, and yields will be significantly higher.
